What is GCC-TBC?
GCC-TBC stands for the Government Certificate in Computer Typing Basic Course, conducted by the Maharashtra State Council of Examinations (MSCE), Pune. It is the standard typing certification for many Maharashtra government and clerical roles, offered at two speeds — 30 words per minute and 40 words per minute — in English, Marathi and Hindi.
The exam pattern
The GCC-TBC examination is scored out of 100 marks across three sections — the speed passage, the objective (theory MCQ) section, and the practical (email, letter & statement) section — all three now practicable in Typing Teacher.

The practical section is graded honestly on text plus whitespace structure — the words you type, the line breaks and blank lines between blocks, tab column stops, and centered headings — not word-processor formatting like bold or fonts. That keeps the marks meaningful for how the documents are actually laid out.
A candidate must reach 40% in each section, not just the overall total. The three practical documents are the exception that proves the rule: they are marked together, so 14 of their 35 marks in any combination clears that section.
How the mock works
- 3-minute trial, then a 7-minute graded passage: the same two-step opening as exam day — the trial is for settling your hands and is never scored.
- Exam-grade scoring: one mark comes off each mistake — a misspelt word, a word left out, an extra word, or text you did not reach in time — out of 40. Your result still shows net WPM and accuracy alongside the marks, and every mistake is listed by category (omission, substitution, addition, spelling, spacing).
- The same 40% floor: 16 of 40 passes the section, so up to 24 mistakes are survivable — exactly as MSCE marks it.
- Error-wise deductions: the same court/government-style grading engine used across Typing Teacher, so practice reflects real marks.
- Certificate: export an exam-style result certificate as a PDF to track your progress.
